Twelfth Day of Winter Caption and Quotes

It’s the twelfth day of winter, and it’s time to celebrate one of the most infamous cold season holidays. The twelve days of Christmas are celebrated from December 25 to January 5. It is customary for people to give gifts, attend parties, and sing Christmas carols during this time. The tradition was first recorded in a poem by Englishman Edmund “Good King Wenceslas” Olde English that appeared in A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. People still refer to this poem today when they talk about the twelve days of Christmas.

Though the winter solstice is a day that brings with it the coldest temperatures and lowest hours of sunlight, we welcome its arrival as it ushers in the twelfth night of Yule. In the Northern Hemisphere, we celebrate this day on or around December 21st, and traditionally it is considered to be a day of rest for those who live in the far reaches of the northern tundra.
